Initially I had great expectations for this blog. I was going to create my own layout featuring my favorite winged friend (the owl), and start off with a perky post about my summery day with a beautiful picture of my fresh-baked blueberry cobbler.
Not so my friends. This is why I titled my blog "Clumsy, clueless, college diva". Although my day has been rather summery, beginning with sleeping in, a good breakfast, and some garage sailing, the rest of my expectations were shot down instantly. My CSS/HTML skills are lacking (I have virtually none) and I dropped my blueberry cobbler when I was taking it out of the oven and ran out of flour so couldn't make another. Such is life!
How do you handle it when things just aren't working out the way you planned?
Usually I get into a pretty bad funk. Today I was determined not to let that happen! So instead of crying over my spilled cobbler I just cleaned it up and set to work on this little internet space of mine. Next up on my list of things to do is take a sheet outside into the lawn and read or nap in the beautiful fresh air. Ahhh, the weekend. <3
Something has been weighing on my mind lately, to go along with the struggle to keep a positive-polly frame of mind.
I live with an aunt who is a retired social worker, and most of her life is consumed with re-living sad memories, or dwelling on the horrors of life. Yet, she's an unbelievably happy person. She tells me pain is a part of life and she always thinks about it just as much as she thinks of joy and it doesn't phase her, it's just who she is.
But it's not who I am. Hearing her talk about stories that always end sad depresses me, and always talking about horrors like the shooting in Aurora. (Don't get me wrong, my heart goes out to the people involved in that tragedy and I don't want to ignore it- I want to help!) but having the news on while I'm trying to eat dinner and hearing about people being shot at age 6 is just not conducive to my general well-being.
What would you do in that sort of situation? How do you keep other people's negative vibes from bringing you down?
<3 A
